About Sara Carrigan Oam

Sara Carrigan OAM – Olympic Champion, Australian Champion, Commonwealth Games Medallist, World Cup winner – has lived her dreams and then some. After announcing her retirement from professional sport in December 2008 following the Beijing Olympic Games, Sara founded ‘Sara Carrigan Cycling’ providing coaching clinics to recreational riders in a friendly, fun and safe environment to deliver rudimentary cycling skill courses, group rides and safety sessions for all levels of ability.  PROFESSIONAL ATHLETE TO COACHI replaced my passion for professional training and racing with my cycling school, which has been such a rewarding experience. The decision for most to partake in a simple cycling skill course has developed into a positive life changing process for both themselves and those around them. It has presented these people an opportunity to overcome fears, to feel a sense of pride & accomplishment, to meet like-minded people, to feel empowered to make positive lifestyle choices, and to feel free and full of energy. Ultimately, self-confidence and enduring relationships have been the result with a motivation for life that is far greater!SOME OF SARA'S GREATEST SUCCESSESGold Medal in the 130 km Road Race at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games medallist, two‐time National Champion, World Cup winner, 12‐time Australian Championship medallist, Australian representative at 8 World Championships, 2 Olympic Games (2004 and 2008) and 2 Commonwealth Games (2002 and 2006), being named Australian Female Road Cyclist of the Year 2002, 2003 and 2004, receiving the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in the 2005 Australia Day Honours List, having a street named in her honour– Sara Carrigan Crt, and being inducted into both the Gold Coast & QLD Sporting Hall of Fame in 2012. Sara graduated from university with a Bachelor of Business majoring in Real Estate & Property Development and was awarded Academic Excellence top 5% of students.

“Cycling has been my passion since I was 14 years old and I now love teaching people to ride. I love showing people what they can enjoy on a bike. I love being a part of people’s journey of overcoming fears and feeling excited and proud of themselves. I love it when these new, ‘never cycled before’ people become hooked on their bicycle. I love it when people’s eyes are opened up to a whole other world of freedom, endorphins, relationships and happiness. I love how the simple act of ‘learning to ride’ turns into so much more!”
