Assists Veterans in overcoming Significant Barriers to Employment (SBE) by providing referrals and services to the Veteran. These referrals may include those to San Joaquin Valley Vets, WorkNet, or the Unemployment Insurance Department. Ensures the Veteran is aware of any benefits he or she may be eligible for such as VA education benefits, disability compensation benefits, or HUDVASH. Ensures that each Veteran receiving disability compensation is aware of services he may be eligible for through the state, such as the Limited Examination and Appointment Program (LEAP). Ensures that each Veteran is knowledgeable on Veterans Preference Points and how to apply. Ensures that each Veteran has an accessible copy of his or her DD 214, ordering a new copy, if necessary. Provides resume writing assistance. Determines the skills, knowledge, abilities, wants, needs, and desires that the Veteran has regarding his employment, to better assist the Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Specialists in assisting with their job search for the Veterans. Completes a DE 8183 on the Veteran and files it in accordance with Employment Development Department policy. Completes activities and case notes on the Veteran's Cal Jobs profile.

Provides customer service to students using Veterans education benefits. Knowledge base on education benefits includes the Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 30), the Post 9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 31), Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP), Veterans Educational Assistance Program (VEAP), and Survivors and Dependents Assistance. Instructs Veterans and Family Members on how to arrange class schedules in order to best utilize and maximize education benefits. Conducts a Quick Flow procedure on BANNER software to check for and correct any errors in class schedules that may interrupt benefits and resolve problems regarding eligibility and payment of VA benefits.
