About Sara Clarke

Throughout my life, I have drawn inspiration from Gandhi’s sage advice, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” I generally fulfilled that calling in parallel lanes over the years, on the job, as a mentor, and as a volunteer. After 15 years of supporting Student Leadership Network’s programs and initiatives as a volunteer, I joined the organization as its Chief Operating Officer. This role is like a Venn diagram in which three circles are the SL Network mission, my values, and the leadership skills I apply to help the organization achieve its strategic goals in increasing equity in education. My transition to the nonprofit sector has been eased by years of experience in sales, marketing, management consulting, and over 20 years leading strategy, analysis and collaboration at Showtime Networks. I loved being on the business side of a creative company that was undergoing tremendous marketplace upheaval as consumers demanded the freedom to watch what they want, where, when and how they chose. Figuring out how to adapt and scale a new business model without cannibalizing the legacy sources of revenue was challenging and rewarding. How I work is as important as what I do: with generosity, respect, integrity, resourcefulness, and efficiency.
