“She is bold in the face of indifference and injustice, and has enhanced my life through her wonderful example of leading with humility and kindness. I believe in Sara because of the investment she’s made in communities of color who need advocates like her.” – LaCresha, colleague of nearly 10 years Camp is where relationships are formed that end up changing your life. Camp is where second chances are earned, lessons are learned, and growth is inevitable. At Camp Mendocino, a program of Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco, life in the city feels distant—like a chapter in a book you forgot you were reading. The characters and circumstances of that book are real, but the story in front of you, the excitement and newness of the forest playground, has captured your attention. Camp becomes a safe space where you can let your guard down and practice being someone new. It’s about creating a version of your best self that might not be possible at home. In just 10 days at Camp, campers have the opportunity to make different decisions and see things from a different perspective.By being at Camp, the fundamental ideas of what is possible have changed – and as the director, I get to hold the space. It is by far the best job I've ever had. • I ask hard questions, encourage reflection, challenge the status quo, and engage new professionals deeply in the process of becoming better role models, mentors, and humans. • I encourage young people to make conscious decisions about who they want to be in the world and show them they are loved, valued, and have important things to say. • I make space for healing, exploration, adventure, and new beginnings. ~HIRING~Looking for a career in youth development?
