Searching for new personalized therapeutic strategies for a recently discovered rare human neurodevelopmental disease: NEDAMSS (Neurodevelopmental Disorder with Regression, Abnormal Movements, Loss of Speech, and Seizures), which is caused by mutations in the IRF2BPL gene.

I recently finished my Master's Final Dissertation: "SORL1 deficiency in Alzheimer's Disease patients: interplay with mitochondria and autophagy"📢 Some of my key accomplishments during this work: - Performed multiple immunofluorescence assays with patients' fibroblasts - Analyzed over 200 images with fluorescence microscope and image analysis software (Volocity, LAS-X) - Practiced several biochemistry techniques (ELISA, Western Blot, etc) - Strengthened my cell culture skills - Learned about iPSC maintenance and expansion

I moved to Berlin right after finishing my BSc to participate in the Erasmus Internship Programme. I worked at Charité University, in the Center for Cardiovascular Research (CCR). I joined a junior research group whose principal investigator was Dr. Christian U. Oeing, and whose aim was to study the role of mTOR signalling in Diabetes and Heart failure. For my project, I carried out an investigation about the molecular link between cancer and heart failure.📢 Some of my key accomplishments during this work: - Familiarized myself with techniques such as echocardiography, metabolic cages, genotyping, blood extraction and general handling of mice - Developed cell culture skills - Learned biochemistry techniques such as RNA and protein extraction and quantification, reverse transcription, realtime-PCR - Improved my analysis and presentation skills

The group I was working with was called "Neurogenetic basis of Behaviour", it was directed by Dr Juan Antonio Sánchez Alcañiz and it was focused on the study of sensory integration and decision-making processes using as a model the gustatory system of Drosophila melanogaster. During this project, I wrote my bachelor thesis, I learned a lot about the study of behaviour in Drosophila and I became fascinated by the complexity of its nervous system and the sophisticated techniques which are available to manipulate it.📢 Some of my key accomplishments during this work: - Designed 3 different behaviour assays and implemented them in 5 populations of Drosophila - Designed and built autonomously a set up for a mobility experiment - Wrote codes in Python for the tracking of the flies and the analysis of the results - Analyzed statistically the results of some experiments using R and Graph Pad Prism - Proved my presentation, time management and writing skills by achieving outstanding grades (9,7/10)
