Ran the University at Buffalo’s independent student newspaper, which publishes 7,000 copies three times a week. Managed a 70-member staff, controlled the paper’s finances and headed its board of directors, which oversees a $100,000-plus budget. Updated the organization by switching website platforms, creating a video desk and growing the paper’s social media following and page views. Worked full time as part of the digital-first newsroom’s “Portland team” for 10 weeks. Wrote daily and long-term pieces for print and online. Regularly took photos and shot and edited video. Met multiple daily deadlines.

Artvoice is an alternative news weekly in Buffalo. At Artvoice I was responsible for generating my own story ideas. I also took on assignments and wrote blogs, previews and articles about the arts and music scene in Buffalo. I worked closely with the paper’s news writers and helped them research and collect background information for their pieces as well as my own. I spent a considerable amount of time searching through donations to local political campaigns. I was published weekly.
