As an intern data scientist with the RSC, I was given many opportunities to consolidate the skills and knowledge gained during my masters programme as well as learn new skills and softwares. Whilst I contributed to some minor on-going projects, I was given the responsibility of my own major project to manage for the duration of my internship. The project was requested by the Diversity and Inclusion Team at the RSC to investigate intersectionality within UK university students. The analysis was conducted in RStudio and involved data cleaning, data pre-processing, statistical testing, model building, model evaluation and optimisation, visualisations, and an outcome report.This project was both technically and theoretically challenging as until this point the majority of my model building experience was in Python and I had little experience analysing data that had not been tailored for learning purposes. I took initiative in researching appropriate methodologies and models most suitable for the data I was using, and was consistently mindful of the ethical and data protection responsibilities required when handling sensitive data. There were some complications when fitting the model to the data, but ultimately this gave me invaluable experience in model optimisation and the use of robust statistical alternatives. I am now more confident with the theoretical backgrounds and usage of count models such as poisson, quasi-poisson, and negative binomial regression models, as well as estimated marginal means. Apart from practical skills, I also gain skills in the following areas: problem-solving, communication, confidence, and public speaking.

As a server at The Basin Restaurant, I took and served dozens of orders daily and handled calls for bookings and takeaway orders. I also helped customers with their meal choices and adjusted dishes to accommodate their dietary needs. I maintained a sociable and professional attitude while serving on the floor, which helped to create a friendly atmosphere in the restaurant. In addition to my serving duties, I also assisted with training new staff and delegated tasks to ensure that everything ran smoothly. I was responsible for handling both cash and card payments in person and over the phone. Overall, my experience at The Basin Restaurant was very rewarding and I enjoyed contributing to the success of the restaurant.

As a student ambassador at Loughborough University, I assisted with calling prospective students and offer holders to provide additional information and answer any pressing questions using my personal experience as a student. I also had the opportunity to guide groups of prospective students, offer holders and future students around the campus. Working as a student ambassador allowed me to develop my presentation skills and overall confidence. Speaking to a large group of people with the pressure of providing accurate information was a valuable experience that has helped me to grow both personally and professionally. Overall, my time as a student ambassador at Loughborough University was a very rewarding experience.

As an honorary assistant psychologist with the UCLH Child and Adolescent Psychology Service, I was responsible for redesigning and reorganizing the patient record keeping database using archived and current data from clinicians in Excel. I also contributed to the start up of an LGBT+ inclusive group therapy project. In my role, I facilitated group therapy sessions and participated in a Youth Service Users interview panel for a new Occupational Therapist at the hospital. I was supervised by both a qualified Clinical Psychologist on the team and a Trainee Clinical Psychologist who was on placement with the service. I also co-wrote and published a paper on peer supervision. Overall, my experience as an honorary assistant psychologist taught me valuable skills in sensitive data management and handling, database organization and maintenance, communication and team building, and leadership.

I have also picked up a few marketing tactics from the stalls and events that I worked.
