I carry out a Business Partnering role to the Welsh Slate group of sites, providing support to the local Operational Managers whilst still ensuring governance of company financial processes.My role includes production and analysis of monthly management accounts; co-ordination of the forecasting and budgeting rounds; production of operational KPIS; guidance and review of Capital expenditure proposals. I manage 2 direct reports.

Gwynedd

Management of the Finance team, responsible for ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the company’s financial reporting, cash reporting and overseeing the Sales & Purchase Ledgers and Payroll.Achievements:• Implementation and embedding of the Business Partnering model, including robust forecasting practices.• Significant improvements in month end processes, reducing nominal ledger close by 3 days.• Management of the transition of transactional tasks to head office of new owners.

Gwynedd

Production of management accounts, management of stock reconciliations, provision of management and operational reporting to the business, cash reconciliations and support to budgeting process.Achievements:• Introduction of a fully resourced people budget to support 2018 business plan.• Development of month end analysis including payroll reconciliations and architectural profitability.

Birchwood

Finance lead within the Central IT Services Team, co-ordinating the financial aspects of the Centralised IT Services collaborative procurement contract for Magnox, Sellafield, LLWR and NNL. Main responsibilities of role:• Management of financial processes to ensure timely and transparent charging by supplier as per contracted financial model.• Provision of monthly financial performance board reports and financial information to meet each company’s reporting requirements.• Assessment of proposed contract changes and new project business cases to ensure value for money.Achievements• Setting up all financial processes (charging, forecasting, accrual provision etc.) from scratch, working with the supplier and the 4 customers to ensure they met the individual needs of each business.• Challenge of contract changes proposed by supplier, resulting in on going savings to customers (an example of which saved circa £500k per annum on licencing requirements).• Driving continuous improvement of data provided by supplier through regular review of charges, ensuring baseline changes (e.g. chargeable unit true-ups) were applied correctly and in a timely manner.• Gaining exposure to the commercial workings of a large, multi-customer contract, significantly increasing knowledge and understanding of commercial processes.• Developing successful relationships across multiple companies, being recognised as the subject matter expert on all financial elements of the contract.

Magnox Support Office, Wylfa Power Station

Management of various cost initiative projects reporting to the HR and Finance Directors.Achievements• Setting up and implementing the Northern Sites support and overhead cost reduction initiative, with target savings of 5% met in first year of programme.• Centralisation/standardisation of the HR Function work scope and budgets and establishment of monthly functional accountability process.• Completion of company-wide audit of employee secondment and car allowances, ensuring on going compliance with company and HMRC regulations.

Wylfa Power Station

Main Responsibilities:• Provision of financial control in order to deliver maximum value to the customer (Nuclear Decommissioning Authority) whilst driving cost reduction against the business plan.• Ensuring accurate and timely performance monitoring, reporting and reviews of site budgets (£100m per annum), and robust internal governance processes.• Strategic management of site Finance department.Achievements• Improvements to month and year end processes, resulting in earlier close downs and minimal variances to forecast (year-end outturn within 1% of month 7 prediction).• Successful relationship with customer, whose confidence was demonstrated by consistently high review scores and a reduction in information required as minimal variances to report.• Proposal for labour planning adopted by whole company which produced an £11m reduction over lifetime of plan and, working with HR, resulted in more accurate on going forecasting of labour requirements.• Site validation and sanctioning process re-launch, resulting in improvements to project forecasting and quality of information provided to Executives/customer to avoid delays in sanction.• Co-ordination of site fixed cost reduction review which identified over £2m of recurring savings.• Building a professional, well respected, self-sufficient team whose support enabled the function to succeed.

Wylfa Power Station

• Line management of site Finance team (day-to-day management, development and coaching) and site Finance activities including monthly reporting process (accruals and forecasting), annual budgeting cycle and administration of site accountability process.• Role included successful transition to new customer (Nuclear Decommissioning Authority) and subsequent team restructure to support introduction of new planning and reporting processes.

Bradwell Power Station

• Member of the site Finance team responsible for monitoring investment spend, maintenance of general ledger, month end reporting, internal financial control checks.• Representative for site on company-wide projects benchmarking and implementation of SAP a application.
