Sarah Atherton Email and Phone Number
I've had an extremely varied working life including being an educator, a civil servant, an investigator and a business woman.Working across many different sectors and in many different roles is a unique experience which has given me a wide range of skills, tools and insights to use in the modern day workplace.I am values-driven and the connection between all my roles is that I like work with purpose, I want to make the work-place and the experience of work better for everyone and I will always encourage others to be true to themselves. I learnt as a child the importance of fair play; to be inclusive and that you must step outside your comfort zone to develop. In addition, I believe when you are confident enough to stand up for yourself, you must stand up for others including those who lack confidence or who do not have a voice.Professionally, I love a challenge and have learnt much about my strengths and limitations along the way. Personally I have overcome many obstacles which means that I have earned my stripes and can offer empathy and authentic support to others when they need it. 13 years a teacher in secondary and further ed. were some of the most rewarding years of my working life and I know that the skills I learnt in the classroom are transferable to many situations. Basically, good teachers can do anything!Working in central government was a unique and enlightening experience which proved to me that a kid from humble origins with some gumption and a few brain cells, had just as much right to sit at the high table and walk the corridors of power as anyone else.During this time, whilst bringing up my very young daughter, I also achieved a merit in (MA) Public Policy at Kings College, London studying a range of policy areas with a focus on education policy. As an investigator for the police watchdog I worked on a variety of casework into serious complaints about the police and police staff. In this challenging role I also gained a BTEC Level 5 Qualification in Investigations (IOPC).During the pandemic I set up my first business, www.get-your-game-on.com retailing tabletop games and puzzles online and at markets and events across the U.K. I also helped my husband set up and run his successful coaching and public speaking business www.alexatherton.com. I am a geek & proud! I love SF, playing board games, walking, outdoor swimming, spending time with family & friends & keeping up with current affairs.I look forward to connecting with you.
