August 2012 - April 2015My current project looks at the role of histone modifying enzymes in the control of Androgen Receptor dependent prostate cancer growth. The use of small inhibitors is in use to cause both cell death and disruption of cell signalling from the Androgen Receptor in the hope that a combination or lone therapy may enhance survival with agressive cancer types.2009- August 2012This work was designed to uncover the role of deltaNp73 and STAT-1 in the development of B-cell lymphoma and leukaemia. DeltaNp73 is a truncated form of p73 which retains the ability to bind to DNA and is therefore able to antagonise the transcriptional effects of both TAp73 and p53. This protein is upregulated in a number of cancers and has been shown to interact in a complex with STAT-1, a pro-apoptotic protein. This project is designed to deduce the role of the interaction between deltaNp73 and STAT-1 and identify whether removal of one or both of these proteins from cells influences both tumourogenesis and/or chemoresistance.
