Amagoro, Kenya is a rural community that holds several primary and secondary schools. Kiwimbi is a library and community center that offers a wide range of educational resources, including but not limited to providing assess to books and classroom materials, additional math and English lessons to students, a lunch program and vocational training. In addition, Kiwimbi also trains assistant teachers to provide additional classroom support for teachers. During my six week internship, my duties included co-leading small English sessions focusing on improving reading comprehension and grammar, leading small group reading sessions in the local primary school as well as assisting in a mentorship program for young women. Other duties included assisting in the development of alternative creative teaching strategies to implement in Kiwimbi's English summer camp programs. -
