Hello, Im Sarah, A 22 year old self-taught chef and student! I study at the London School of Economics and Political Sciences researching the intersections between Anthropology, Food, writing, culture and the fascinating systems of care surrounding cooking. I would love to one day, be able to refine and increase my social media presence to the point where I'm able to open my own food business and have the influence to champion causes close to my heart! My prior work experience at the UN in Dubai during the Rohingya crisis, gave me the insight into the devastation that food insecurity brings to communities. 'if we are not fed, we cannot fight.' it was a simple, pragmatic, yet highly compelling statement that I recall hearing from an older refugee man that changed my approach to food . It allowed me to not just see food as a form of everyday sustenance but more as an artistic medium for resistance. I can confidently say that learning how to cook, not only saved my life in a personal sense, but helped me discover myself vocationally by finding a gap in the market that my specific skills can help fill!I created my food blog, @garma222 (which translates to 'bite' in the Sudanese dialect of Arabic) , to illustrate my love and passion for cooking. I post daily Reels, Tiktoks, Instagram Stories, recipes and more! I currently plan, shoot, edit and fund all of my content on my own while finishing my last year at LSE. I see my page as a place for exponential growth where I will be able to champion causes that I am passionate about. causes such as mental health awareness and access in the black community, young entrepreneurism, volunteerism and potentially working to create my own food bank to support Refugees that have been displaced by the Sudanese coup, My work also helps demonstrate the potential for cooking to empower young people to be more independent through teaching the necessary skills and discipline such as balancing finances, time management and the beauty of cultural expression through food!I'm a hard worker with great attention to detail, leadership skills, am highly analytical and my background in Anthropology has afforded me with necessary transferable skills to be successful in my field. For instance, my cultural sensitivity and being able to step back and critically asses the implications of any necessary obstacle / new venture.Looking forward to connecting and seeing how far I can go to push my dreams!
