NHS works to increase access to the wealth-building opportunities of homeownership for borrowers of color across Chicagoland. To do this, we are addressing systemic barriers in the homebuying process that have contributed to the racial homeownership gap since the creation of the 30-year mortgage in the 1950s. We are engaged in two major policy areas: equity in mortgage lending and equity in the home appraisal process.I also coordinate the Housing Policy Task Force, a group of more than twenty advocacy organizations working to achieve these goals together. This group is currently pursuing legislation to create more transparent data access in mortgage lending and remove systemic bias in the home appraisal process.

I worked with business owners in the Uptown neighborhood to help them access city services, funding sources, and fill vacant storefronts. Working with social media, an email newsletter, and general constituent services, I served as a liaison between the business community, residents, and local government officials. Business Partners served as a City of Chicago Delegate Agency, which allowed us to assist local business owners in obtaining business and liquor licences, zoning changes, and access to public funds such as TIF, SBIF, and SSA Rebate Programs. I also coordinated business outreach, community event planning, and long-term chamber strategies for growth and improvement.

- Composed weekly newsletters, sent to 7,000 constituents, including legislative updates, information on local businesses, and updates on Aldermanic activities- Surveyed vacant buildings and lots to update office database and target resources to anchor storefronts- Compiled information from 11 constituent committees in creation of the 48th Ward Master Plan- Planned and executed community town halls and events with Alderman, volunteers, and staff
