Sarah Campbell is a Data Scientist specializing in Machine Learning and AI at Deloitte. She possess expertise in physics, latex, mathematical modeling, science, data analysis and 19 more skills. Colleagues describe her as "I had a chance to work very closely with Sarah for about a year as part of the Alexa Translations group. Sarah led the science team while I was leading the engineering team. I have seen Sarah excel as a technology leader as well as leading people in her organization. She has a deep knowledge of the science behind natural language understanding and is able to use that knowledge to drive improvements in related models and work closely with engineering teams to get those improvements in front of customers. She in unafraid to take on ambiguous work and pushes her team to improve the state of the domain she is in, using methodical, scientific approaches. Sarah is also an empathetic manager. She has a sharp eye to identify and groom talent. I would strongly recommend Sarah to any organization looking for leaders in ML, Data Science and with a desire to have a positive customer impact.", "Sarah is a phenomenal manager and science lead. I reported to Sarah in the past two and half years at Alexa A.I. I was extremely impressed by Sarah's ability to efficiently manage our research science team and tackle some of the most difficult research problems in machine translation, speech understanding, and conversational AI. Sarah has a rare blend of deep science and technical expertise with goal-oriented leadership. As a science manager, Sarah led our team to identify innovative research ideas and turned them into products that reach millions of customers. While some of these products require complex and ambitious features, Sarah was always able to effectively work with stakeholders and identify the optimal science solutions that best satisfy the customer experience. Sarah communicated with the team with clearly defined goals, priorities, and milestones, which eventually led to delivering products with amazing speed and quality. As a science lead and experienced ML practitioner, Sarah has all the technical knowledge to coach and guide the team throughout the full lifecycles of ML model design, training, and deployment. Sarah always insisted on the highest standards with long-term thinking. She made sure that the ML deliverables were state-of-the-art, testable, scalable, and future-proof. Moreover, Sarah has been very active in the science community and mentored the team to publish our research and give talks at top-tier conferences. Thanks to Sarah, as a scientist on her team I felt motivated by the innovative research ideas we were working on, knowing they would quickly become valuable customer-facing features. As a manager, Sarah led the team with empathy, provided us with the most valuable career advice, helped us identify growth ideas, and worked hard to help with our career development. Sarah has been genuinely interested in each of her team member's career growth and set consistent career targets. I feel very fortunate to work with a manager and mentor like Sarah. I give my highest recommendation to Sarah. I firmly believe any employee would be lucky to have her as a manager and a team member!", and "Sarah is my direct manager at Amazon Alexa AI science Aug 2018. She is an exceptional machine learning scientist and team leader. She led our team on delivering various projects in multilingual NLU, ASR, machine translation, and speech translation which bring delightful experience to our customers. Sarah has deep knowledge in programming, machine learning, and statistics. She is passionate on solving challenging real-world ML problems by seeking the most efficient and effective approach but not the most sophisticated ones. As a team leader, Sarah is visionary about project goals and her team's roadmap. She keeps effective communications with senior leaderships, collaborators, and team members. Sarah sincerely cares about her team members by providing the right coaching and opportunities to each individual. To me, she is not only my manager but also a career mentor who helps me grow personally and professionally. It was a great pleasure to work for Sarah and I would love to work with her again. I'd highly recommend Sarah to any organization that needs an experienced and knowledgeable science leader to deliver cutting-edge ML products."

Post-Doctoral ResearcherColumbia University In The City Of New York Jan 2015 - Sep 2017New York, Ny, UsGuiding detector design decisions for a new experiment called sPHENIX using simulations to predict measurement capabilities and detector resolution while optimizing scientific impact per research dollar. Developed and tested electronic waveform digitizers for the readout of multiple calorimeters within sPHENIX. Created a theoretical model to describe direct photon yield and anisotropy measurements and tested it using a Monte Carlo simulation to describe the current measurements and predict future results. This resulted in a single-authored publication. -
Post-Doctoral ResearcherIowa State University Jul 2011 - Dec 2014Ames, Iowa, UsPerformed detailed simulations of 868 million PYTHIA events for a proposed new detector, the MPC-EX detector. Wrote a significant portion of the MPC-EX detector proposal and presented at the funding review. Organized the MPC-EX test beam experiment at Fermi National Laboratory and managed the installation of the MPC-EX detector in PHENIX, an over $100 million dollar high energy nuclear physics experiment. The MPC-EX detector will extend the pion reconstruction range to the luminosity limit, a factor of four improvement over current capabilities. This will allow forward prompt photon measurements that will quantify the level of gluon saturation at low-x in the gold nucleus with the projected error band a factor of four smaller than EPS09’s current allowable range. -
Research AssistantResearch Foundation Of Suny 2004 - 2011Albany, Ny, UsMeasured the mass spectrum in electron-positron pairs in 200GeV Cu+Cu collisions at PHENIX to determine whether the short-lived ρ meson's mass was modified in the collision. This measurement revealed electron-positron pair correlations in the 50 TB dataset despite a 1/100 signal-to-background ratio by using statistical subtraction and event-mixing techniques. A small excess yield over the expected hadronic sources near the ρ mass region was measured. This excess decreases as collisions become more peripheral. Recent theoretical developments describe the enhancement seen near the ρ meson mass in heavy ion collisions as a broadening of the ρ meson's spectral function caused by the mixing of the ρ meson with other hadronic states as a consequence of chiral symmetry restoration. -
