Chief Executive OfficerWorking Credit Aug 2021 - PresentPortland, Oregon, United StatesWorking Credit envisions an inclusive and equitable credit system in which everyone has the knowledge and tools they need to fulfil their financial dreams. We strive to achieve this vision by partnering with individuals and communities to interrupt structural racism by providing credit building education, one-on-one counseling and coaching, and access to the products necessary to thrive financially. Our goal is to scale credit building in low-income communities and communities of color as a key strategy to strengthen and enhance the lives of families across generations. We do this by helping households acquire the upfront knowledge, affordable products, and ongoing support they need to achieve and sustain prime credit scores and to establish a safety net of at least $1,000 in available credit. These improvements foster resilience by helping participants a) save money on interest rates, fees, insurance premiums, and security deposits—all of which boost monthly budgets, b) obtain desired rental housing and jobs to increase—increasing stability and security, and c) weather emergencies without relying on payday lenders. They are also prerequisites for accessing the affordable credit necessary to realize wealth creating goals such as homeownership, establishing and growing a small business, and/or going to college. Credit building is especially important for Black and Hispanic households, who are almost twice as likely to be credit invisible or have low credit scores than their white counterparts.Working Credit offers participants one-of-a-kind credit building education through group workshops followed by we months of individualized counseling and coaching. We reach participants through three different service delivery channels: 1) Strategic nonprofit and municipal partners, 2) Employers, and 3) Direct to consumers through our online platform. -
