Helping to create learning environments where everyone thrives as curious learners. In 2021 I joined the inaugural team at Compass Catholic Community, a new school for young people in the northern suburbs of Adelaide, who may have faced barriers to living a life that is meaningful to them. Having worked as a team to design and implement a teaching and learning framework, each day I work side by side with young people to set directions, grow their agency and develop their skills and talents. Taking a moment to moment approach, learning is highly individualised as it considers all the needs of the young person. It has been a joy to watch our young people grow since opening in 2022. I have also had the chance to experience incredible professional development during this time, gaining a Cert 3 in Business as well as my TAE and have lead the implementation and monitoring of the NCCD on site. Looking forward, I’m very much looking forward to completing my Masters in Educational Leadership as well. Graduating from the University of Adelaide in 2008, I worked as a secondary teacher in the areas of English, HASS and RE while developing my leadership skills in the areas of curriculum (HASS Coordinator and Leader of Learning) and well-being (Year 11 and 12 Well-being Coordinator). I love teaching senior English, Ancient Studies, History and Society and Culture and have also enjoyed the challenge and new opportunities that teaching in the Flexible Leaning space bring, with experience in AIF, EIF, Community Studies and Integrated Learning. I believe that our students need to be at centre of decision making, as we work together to improve pedagogy and champion reflective practice. I have experience in improving assessment practices, streamlining planning and promoting ongoing reflection by providing regular professional development as well as one on one support. As well as this, my work has focused on how the general capabilities and Project Based Learning can facilitate greater student agency. My strengths are in creating fair assessment and planning for integration as well as supporting new teaching staff. I have had the opportunity to be involved in various pilots and worked with teachers and organisations throughout SA and VIC.Furthermore, I have facilitated students in educating the school community about social justice and in 2015 I worked as the Education Officer for Caritas Australia within South Australia.The future needs curious, nurtured souls who have the agency to act for themselves.
