After working several years in customer service with Half Price Books, I returned to school and earned my Master's in English at Marquette University. While earning my advanced degree, I was lucky enough to teach under Marquette's First-Year English program. Designed to help students adjust to college life, write effectively in a university setting, and think critically about global concerns, this program allowed me to work closely with young adults in a one-on-one and small-classroom setting. While working at Marquette, I realized how important it is for students to receive the support and skills necessary to succeed in higher education. As some one who has witnessed our country's educational achievement gap firsthand, I am now seeking a career that will move away from personal scholarship and instead focus on helping students plan for successful adult lives.
