Marianne Moore wrote that poets must create “‘imaginary gardens with real toads in them,’” but the necessity stands true for all writers: writing should evoke real emotion from a reader, or it is not worth writing at all.Writing provides the means to translate complicated, abstract ideas into text on a page. The detailed quality of language opens new avenues of expressing, reaching audiences that are unlimited by time or geography. My undergraduate studies at a liberal arts institution encouraged me to write across disciplines with my culminating works representing strong hybrids of literary, philosophical, and social influences. I truly enjoy both researching and writing because they combine my unrelenting passion for writing with learning. I work to push literature out of the academic sphere and thrust it into a social context, combining practicality with pleasure.After working as an AmeriCorps VISTA, technical writer, and proposal writer and editor, I returned to graduate school in 2018 to apply my practical experience and advance my skills as a writer, researcher, and thinker. Having graduated from Buckenll University in May 2020, I am interested in reentering the professional writing sphere in a role that demands the regular use of the translation skill that I showcase in my ability to write about complex topics in digestible, impactful language.While writing is essentially practical at its core, my love of language and ability to translate complex ideas into manageable language facilitates my readers’ understanding of a text, encouraging a level of comprehension that marks the difference between reading a text and remembering it.
