This job entailed seasonal event coordination with a primary focus on weddings. Duties included arranging meetings with all clients to create customized timelines as well as providing tours of the facilities for future events. On the day of events I oversaw all procedures including: total setup of all event sites, greeting and coordinating with all vendors, fielding any day of problems, packing up remaining decorations and items. I was responsible for handling any spontaneous tasks to arise and ensure the success of all event initiatives. Over the course of this position I coordinated over 60 events including fundraisers, weddings, yoga retreats, memorial services, and private parties.

Lake Atitlan Guatemala

As a third party I was brought on to help launch The Ranch Restaurant and Event Space in Guatemala. Among implementing restaurant procedures and designing the menu, I also lead marketing and social media strategies and developed an online presence for the business. Through daily operations I was able to curate a successful atmosphere in the space for hosting events such as concerts and private dinners. Additionally, I acted as the event coordinator and planner for community events. These duties included all marketing for events, coordinating with vendors, and handling any day of issues. Before leaving I trained local women to perform all restaurant duties.

During my days at university I took on a position as campaign coordinator over an initiative to eliminate the sale of plastic water bottles on campus and install refilling water station alternatives. I worked with a nonprofit called Think Outside the Bottle on strategies and student training. I was able to utilize effective petitioning skills and recruit other students to help continue the campaign.

While in college I had the great opportunity of researching for an urban farm in the city of New Orleans. Most of my work was long-term research evaluating the circumstances necessary to achieve food justice in New Orleans by employing an urban farm in each of the city’s primary communities. I was also able to help in various farm tasks including composting, planting, feeding animals, collecting eggs, harvesting, and seeding.

While working for shell I acted as a liaison between the corporation and community by providing direct community outreach assistance. I addressed questions, risks, and concerns with community members about the production of a new oil refinery. With this information I was able to compute community feedback data and demographic assessments into Excel spreadsheets that Shell could use to make sociological impact analysis’. Additionally I investigated solutions to environmental and social issues surrounding the production of an oil refinery in a predominantly poor community.
