Course: Restorative Justice in Education

Creator and Director of the Restorative Justice Coordinator Residency Program. I am accountable for leading a team of 12 through onboarding, on-going coaching and development, and data tracking/conversations. I lead the district-wide expansion effort by providing school trainings, working with internal and external stakeholders, and providing consulting services for 33 buildings. With this model, the Kansas City Public School district will be a fully Restorative district by 2025.

I pioneered the first school-based Restorative Justice program at Southeast High School in the Kansas City Public School district. I led the project from conception through implementation. I'm experienced in delivering workshops, designing student SEL curriculum, providing coaching and development, facilitating Circles, hosting mediations, and developing culture improvement systems.Successes include reducing suspensions 39% from 2018-2020, reducing student recidivism by 54% from 2018-2020, and increasing teacher de-escalation competency by 40% from 2018-2020. Based on success at Southeast High School, I worked with community partners and district leaders to develop non-punitive systems, re-write the district Code of Conduct, and develop a plan for Restorative Justice district-wide expansion. I co-developed a Restorative Justice Coordinator Residency Program for expansion fidelity.

Innovative educator:- Facilitated developmentally appropriate curriculum for students 9-12 - Established positive relationships with students, parents, fellow teachers and administrators- Used ninth grade reading data to advocate for a new Literacy Program for students 2+ grade levels behind - Trained in Engage New York Facilitation model Successes included receiving the Jaime Escalante district-wide award in 2019 for Excellence in Education.
