I am the principal pharmacist for the critical care and cardiovascular services at St George's NHS Trust. My job entails leading, managing, strategically developing and delivering specialist clinical pharmacy and medicines optimisation to Critical Care and Cardiovascular patients. I am responsible for the provision and development of services provided ensuring the latest evidence based research is incorporated into our guidelines and policies. I also plan and deliver specialist training within my team, within pharmacy and to the wider multidisciplinary team. I am responsible for the planning and development of projects and audits for Critical Care and Cardiovascular services ensuring the highest quality of care is provided to our patients. As a senior member of the pharmacy team, I work closely with my colleagues developing strategies to enhance the pharmacy service to ensure departmental and trust objectives and KPIs are met.I have a wealth of experience and knowledge having worked on the frontline within the NHS for over a decade.

Implementing theatre specific anaphylaxis kits in line with the latest national recommendations. - Managing the medication related risks on the trust’s risk register, with the aim of minimising or mitigating these risks.- Responsible for drug finance within the TAP directorate, monitoring spending trends and costs and ensuring cost remains within budget. Presenting quarterly financial reports to the directorates and making interventions in prescribing practices where necessary.- Lead pharmacist in the “Acutely ill patients” steering group. This involves senior multi-disciplinary teams (MDTs) collaborating to address local and national agendas minimising deteriorating patients’ risk on wards and preventing ICU admission. My role included analysing medication related incidents and implementing change (such as adding safety warnings to high risk drugs on the electronic prescribing system), updating trust-wide guidelines and dealing with all medication-related matters affecting the trust. - As the pharmacy lead for resuscitation for the trust, I successfully implemented new intubation kits for use trust-wide for patients requiring emergency intubations on the wards. This was a trust requirement for a few years and I succeeded in making the change required when the lack of intubation medications was further highlighted during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
