We unite – working with campaigners, practitioners, national organisations, businesses, people with lived experiences, funders, researchers, governments, and international bodies so that they can learn, collaborate and make greater progress together. We incubate - designing and setting up the initiatives with partners that will make the most impact on global mental health and helping them to grow.

Responsible for helping establish and now manage United for Global Mental Health. Oversee advocacy, financing and policy work and the day to day operations including financial management and human resources.

Advising clients on advocacy, external relations, resource mobilisation and creation and management of global campaigns. Clients include the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness, the Coalition for Global Prosperity, the Global Campaign for Mental Health, Malaria No More UK, Nursing Now, Save the Children UK, Unicef UK, WHO Health Emergencies Programme, and WHO Western Pacific Regional Office. April/May 2018 based in Bangladesh working on External Relations for WHO with a focus on the Rohingya Response.Example project: leading communications for the launch of the new Nursing Now campaign - a global campaign raising the status and profile of nurses and nursing - including announcement of HRH Duchess of Cambridge as Patron. The launch secured print, broadcast and social media coverage around the world. Example project: co-author of, and production coordinator for, new Save the Children Report. Designed to influence UK policy makers and contribute to the future direction of UK Aid spending. Featured widely in UK media on launch (October 2017).

Acted as External Relations Director responsible for all aspects of EXR for the new new WHO Health Emergencies (WHE) programme. Member of the core team managing the reform process and the design and development of the new WHE programme. Responsible for designing the new resource mobilisation structure and developing the RM strategy and results framework. Negotiating with donors to support the new programme and provide the necessary funding for core operations as well as for specific projects and programme areas. Coordinating teams working on RM for outbreaks and health emergencies and for fundraising and reporting on the Contingency Fund for Emergencies (a revolving fund at WHO to support emergency work). Researching and designing innovative funding mechanisms for the organisation; identifying and developing new funding streams. Guiding technical teams, regional and country offices on RM strategies and reporting. Managed a team of 25 RM and communications professionals; responsible for raising a biannual budget of $1.8 billion.

Led resource mobilisation for the Ebola response team. Worked with colleagues in WHO headquarters, regional and country offices and with other stakeholders including donor governments and donor agencies, UN agencies, foundations and NGOs. Advised on the creation, revision and management of a budget of over USD$450M including award application and negotiation with WHO teams and donors, award management at global and country level and donor reporting. Ensuring high quality management and reporting of a portfolio of over 100 grants from over 60 donors.

Led the Communications and Donor Relations work for WHO Philippines. Help manage the WHO US$17 million Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) program - directly responsible for budget planning and budget management, donor reporting and communications. Part of the senior management team with responsibility for over 100 staff across the country. Worked closely with WHO global and regional offices, the Philippine Department of Health and other stakeholders on communicating health priorities and positively influencing public action on health.

Worked as a consultant to the WHO in Nigeria to maintain and strengthen donor relations. Advising on resource mobilisation and donor communications for the Polio eradication and Childhood Immunisation programmes.

Worked as an independent consultant and through Firetail on a variety of projects to advise clients on issues including strategic planning, stakeholder management, communications and campaigning. Recruited by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to work with the Ethiopian Institute for Biodiversity on a new ten year strategy with regular travel to Addis to work with the EIB. Provided ongoing strategic advice to Malaria No More UK.

Recruited by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and World Health Organization to provide strategic advocacy advice on resource mobilization. Worked on behalf of Global Polio Eradication Initiative (whose partners are UNICEF, WHO, Rotary International, CDC, the UN Foundation and the Gates Foundation). Responsible for working with senior leadership across the GPEI to help coordinate the effort to raise the additional funds required to finance the global eradication of polio over the next few years.By the time of the Vaccine Summit in April 2013 we were able to announce we had raised US$4 billion from a wide variety of donors. My last task in the role was helping the GPEI determine how it will raise the further US$1.5billion required to fully fund global polio eradication 2013-18.

Working as an independent consultant, conducted a full review of the charity's communications function, drawing up recommendations for improvements in strategy and delivery, and implementing a plan to achieve this.

Recruited to set up Malaria No More UK as a new NGO from scratch in November 2008. Drew up initial business plan and strategy, and fundraised to establish the organisation. Oversaw the public launch in 2008/9 including a photo-call with David Beckham, Andy Murray and the Prime Minister at Downing Street. Responsible for the growth and development of the organisation over the next nearly 4 years. During that time, Malaria No More UK successfully helped make malaria a key international development priority for the UK Government, significantly increased British public understanding and support for tackling malaria; and helped protect over 10 million people from malaria in Africa.

Led cross-Whitehall team to deliver the Prime Minister’s initiative to accelerate progress on international development by inspring action by governments, faith groups, NGOs, the private sector and foundations. The campaign delivered $16 billion in new commitments; recruited 52 countries, 60 global companies and representatives of the major faith groups and civil society groups internationally.

Invited by ministers and the senior management to draw up and implement the first communication strategy for the ministerial team. Managed the speechwriter for Secretary of State and ministers: producing on average at least 4 speeches, op-eds and articles per week for the ministerial team. Worked as a Deputy Director within the Communication Division with particular responsibility for improving stakeholder relations, internal communications and the external web site.

A newly created post, I was asked to use my expertise of enlisting different stakeholder groups in national and international policy making to help deliver the FCO's objectives. This included everything from working with the RSPB to better explain the relevance of Euruopean policies to the protection of British wildlife; to helping senior management and the CSR team secure the best possible outcome from the 2007 reveiw. I also worked as a Deputy Director within the Communications Division and oversaw the team responsible for internal communications for the FCO: an organisation of 17,000 staff and using multiple languages.

I did a variety of projects and initiatives as part of this role and was a maternity cover in the first instance and a policy advisor for education and health for a year of this stint with Oxfam. My key projects included: leading all G8 Oxfam lobbying work from 2002 - 2006; leading the Make Poverty History campaigns policy and lobby team; building a successful new relationship between Oxfam and the Conservative Party leadership following the election of David Cameron; acting as media spokesperson for Oxfam across all policy areas and including the humanitarian appeals aftermath of the Tsunami. Through my work on the G8 and MPH, I helped secure the 0.7 aid commitment from all major UK political parties in the 2005 election manifestos: this commitment has endured and is central to UK political support for DFID and for aid today.

I was responsible for all aspects of stakeholder relations for the UK and Ireland. This included interaction with key government ministers, advisors and officials; leading NGOs (allies and critics); acting as media manager for senior WB management on visits to London; and ultimately the design and oversight of the WB's strategy for engagement in the UK.

I supported the Bank's US Government lead, by working on congressional and US Adminstration engagement - monitoring acitivities and providing briefings; organising events across the US to explain and promote the work of the World Bank; and organising a high profile speakers series in Washington DC with the Smithsonian Museum.

Provided research and briefing information for clients on US Government Policy and Organisations. Regularly attended Congressional Committee meetings and briefings and reported on outcome and impact of discussions. Researched potential new business opportunities for JWI.
