I am a returning student to college after a 10 year hiatus, interest and career shift. I was effected professionally, like many, by Covid-19 with few prospects for re-hire in an administrative field. While not necessarily unhappy with my administrative tasks, I have long considered returning to school. I believe that there is education anxiety in young people beginning with their transitions into higher levels of education and understanding of societal and social expectations that ultimately transitions into adulthood. I am currently working on an associate degree in psychology with the intent of furthering my education to a masters or doctoral degree and working in the developmental psychology field which studies the psychological progress and development that take place throughout life. Many developmental psychologists focus on children and adolescents, but they also may study aging and problems facing older adults. This career will provide me with the opportunity to conduct clinical research into the human brain and psyche and provide opportunity for theory and group analysis. Recognition of these mental barriers are what I hope to help break down to encourage education in all aspects – be them for educational purposes or towards actual life-skills.
