As a postdoctoral research fellow in Dr. Hemant Roy's lab, I independently investigated novel cancer biomarkers and metabolic reprogramming in early colorectal carcinoma. I used multiple basic science techniques including cell culture, transfections, stable and transient knockdowns of gene expression, cell proliferation assays, Western Blot and RT PCR. In addition to using established colorectal cancer cell lines, I helped develop a method to culture human colonic organoids using colonic stem cells.

As a categorical Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery resident physician, I served as an integral team member on multiple different services and at four different hospitals, including Boston Medical Center, Boston Children's Hospital, Lahey Clinic and the VA. Rotations included General Otolaryngology, Pediatric Otolaryngology, Emergency Medicine, Anesthesia, Surgical Intensive Care, Neurosurgery, Trauma Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Transplant Surgery, Minimally Invasive Surgery and General Surgery.

Assisted Dr. Jeffrey Geller in his integrative medicine practice and group medical visit program in an underserved patient population. Helped develop a guidebook for starting empowerment-based group medical visit programs for pediatric obesity.

Investigated the interaction between diet, age and epigenetics in colon cancer. Utilized a variety of laboratory methods including RNA/DNA extraction, RNA/DNA quantification, gel electrophoresis, RT-PCR, DNA strand break assays and gene promoter methylation assays.

Evaluated malnutrition prevention programs and made suggestions for improvement. Helped set up a nutrition rehabilitation unit in an isolated community with high malnutrition rates.
