Humans need connection and we provide the training to enable people to do that! I am a communication and interpersonal skills trainer with a passion for helping others become powerful and confident communicators, supporting them to build strong and authentic relationships with others. I firmly believe that connecting with others creates opportunities, both personally and professionally. In 2018 my business partner, Fiona MacPherson, and I founded Applied Theatre, a communications consultancy based in Scotland. Through our work in education and theatre for over 25 years, we knew that there was a confidence and skills issue when it came to people feeling they were reaching their potential. Many factors prevent people from being confident in communicating, including the fast moving drive for automation across all sectors which is designing out opportunities for people to develop the skills to have positive, meaningful interpersonal connections. Using acting and performing skills combined with understanding how people across a diverse world of learning styles engage with learning, we connect the worlds of education and performance to deliver creative, dynamic and interactive workshops that allow everyone to have their “aha moment” about how they interact with others and the world around them.We learn deeply when we are engaged emotionally with the content; when we are moved, and engaged with what we are doing. Our workshops are practical, immediately applicable in the real world and, most importantly of all, fun. When we are enjoying what we do, our brain responds positively, linking that mood with the learning, allowing us to remember and recall what we have explored much more effectively.
