I'm a backend product engineer who makes the core parts of Slack reliable, robust, and easy for other Slack engineers to build upon.

I was a doctoral student in the Graduate Interdisciplinary Program in Applied Mathematics and defended in July, 2013 with a PhD minor in Computer Science. My research interests are in applied discrete mathematics, information theory, error correcting codes, data compression, quantum information theory, computability, computational complexity theory.

Taught two semesters of College Algebra, one semester of Pre-Calculus, and one semester of Calculus I. Prepared and lead 3-5 class meetings and 3 office hours per week. Assigned and graded homework, wrote and graded midterm exams. Assisted in the departmental undergraduate tutoring room.

Verified and developed erasure correcting and error correcting codes for applications to RAID-like data storage systems based on Reed-Solomon codes. Implemented related algorithms in MATLAB and C. Modeled the reliability of data storage systems using Markov chains.

Modeled cost of disease and health workforce supply and demand in Excel. Analyzed survey and medical claims data using SAS. Developed graphical user interfaces using Visual Basic for Applications. Developed and maintained project websites using PHP and MySQL.
