My responsibility was to analyse soil samples for the level of phosphorus and pH. The instruments that I used were UV-Vis spectrometer (for analysis of Phosphorus) and Atomic Absorption Spectro photometer (for the analysis of Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium and Iron).

The ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with Food Agricultural Organization Was undergoing a research in which I had to be transferred to Maun and Shakawe for 6 months to administer a questionnaire to famers. The aim was to observe, interview and advice famers regarding the safe use, storage and disposal of Pesticides. At the end of which, a formal presentation was given to some of the FAO representatives to give them feedback on research findings.

My work includedmonitoring and testing of veterinary drugs, prohibited substances and environmental contaminants on beef and animal feed in order to support export of beef to European Union and other countries. I used various equipment to detect minute quantities of metals in beef. These included Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, Gas-Chromatography- Mass Spectrophotometer, Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). I further went through training in sample management as well as learning Quality management issues.
