About Sarah Paschall

A passionate, engaging, and organized researcher, I am fascinated by the human brain and consciousness. I believe that education rooted in scientific discovery, when communicated effectively, can empower people to make better choices around their health and healing. As someone with a strong background in neuroscience research coupled with experience in customer service, coaching, and psychedelic peer support, I am experienced in connecting with and communicating across distinct networks. I am seeking opportunities to use these skills to work at a research based organization that shares these values. From a neuroscience background, having studied the disordered brain states of schizophrenia and Parkinson's Disease (BA, WWU 2010; MSc, UBC 2016), I was drawn into the research around altered brain states on psychedelics. I was honored to help Quantified Citizen launch with the world's largest microdosing study, Microdose.me. Collaborating with well known names in the field to get this study out was inspiring. The juxtaposition of growing up during the War on Drugs and then helping study these substances for use as therapeutics has been a fascinating ride. I firmly believe that with a solid foundation in scientific research, we can educate, destigmatize, and eventually heal many of the traumas in today's disconnected society. This starts with research and harm reduction.I recently helped create a 10 week online course on psychedelic microdosing for practitioners and interested folk. This included research and content creation as well as interviews with leaders in the psychedelic space. Adapting scientific concepts to be understood by a varied audience is a skill and passion of mine.

I worked over the entire research pipeline for our mobile app research start-up, largely related to psychedelic research. I helped and performed roles from market research, study design with world-wide researchers, ethics approval processes, survey creation, validated survey research, adapting to fit our app working with in-house tech team, liaising between stakeholders, study testing, feedback, marketing campaigns, study launch, data analysis, data dissemination, report writing for internal and external sources, grant applications, and more. Our goal was to help democratize science by bringing it out of the ivory tower and into the palm of your hand so folks from everywhere could participate, opening the doors for more diverse voices at the table. Our biggest study to date is Microdose.me with over 20,000 participants and 2 papers published in Nature Scientific Reports working with a global team of researcher including Paul Stamets, Jim Fadiman, Kim Kuypers, Zach Walsh, Pam Kryskow and more. Additionally, we investigated the relationship of microdosing and meditation with Beckley Foundation, anxiety and HPPD (HPPD and Anxiety, Do you see it?), the impact of psychedelics on the menstrual cycle (Code Red: Women and Psychedelics), psychedelics as therapies for combat veterans with PTSD with Saving Grace K9's, Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy, attitudes towards psychedelics with Diamond Therapeutics, microdosing and pain as well as microdosing and neurological disorders with Beckley Foundation, psilocybin as a therapy for frontline clinicians experiencing burnout (Dr. Tony Back, University of Washington), music and psychedelics with Wavepaths, impacts of COVID, sobriety and sleep, mental health tracker gratitude and healing with Louie Schwarztberg, and the impacts of breathwork with Our Breath Collective, and more. This wide range of studies meant digging in to research on many topics and working with a diverse group of researchers or community activists.

I brought to life a 10-week online educational course for practitioners and interested folks on the subject of psychedelic microdosing. This included the history, discovery, molecular structure, mechanism of action, neural pathways, current and historical research, microdosing and macrodosing practices, harm reduction, legal policies, and more for psilocybin, LSD, ayahuasca, ketamine, MDMA, peyote, and other substances. Additionally, I interviewed leaders in the psychedelic space and moderated Q&A sessions with participants (James Fadiman, Mark Haden, Dr. Zach Walsh, and more). This experience led me to dive deep into the history and research on these substances and translate the material to be accessible for a wide range of audience members. I also helped design and edit questions to check the knowledge absorption of the students.
