Currently I am a Senior Lecturer at Liverpool John Moore's University on our Geography, Climate Change and Environmental Science Programmes. I specialise in risk, vulnerability and resilience analyses and the communication of them. I work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the School of Biological and Environmental Sciences, to help deliver three BSc programmes and one MSc programme. I lead the core first year module on Hazards and the third year module Coastal and Marine Management. I'm also Year Tutor for first years for all three programmes - Geography, Climate Change and Environmental Science. My teaching responsibilities include hazards particularly flooding and flood risk, extreme temperatures and wildfires, biological hazards and man-made hazards. I also teach coastal management, coastal processes, GIS skills, qualitative and quantitative methods, and communication science. Finally I am also the Vice Chair of the RGS-IGB Coastal and Marine Research Group.Previously I was a Senior Research Associate at University of Portsmouth working on UK urban flood risk communication and helping to establish a Coastal Cities Network (CCN), that investigated different flood management scenarios via co-creation with communities and partners; using unique visualisation techniques. I also have a substantial amount of experience as a web manager (over 7 years), and have created and overseen websites and edited and managed their newsletters and flyers. Specialties: Researcher, Risk, Vulnerability and Resilience Science, Coastal Science, Flooding, Indexing, Qualitative methods particularly workshops, Database Management, GIS Visuals, Mapping, Web Design and Manager, Newsletters

Senior LecturerLiverpool John Moores University Sep 2018 - PresentLiverpool, United KingdomCurrently I am Senior Lecturer in Geography and Climate Change at the School of Biological and Environmental Sciences. My research and teachings focus on hazard, vulnerability, resilience and risk assessments, particularly for flooding. I am the module leader for the undergraduate first year core module Hazards, the third year course Coastal and Marine Management and the third year course Advanced Topics in Climate Change. -
Senior Research AssociateUniversity Of Portsmouth Oct 2015 - Jul 2018Portsmouth, United KingdomWorking in a multi-disciplinary team to establish a Coastal Cities Network (CCN). The main goal of the CCN is to create a network that strives to improve resilience for vulnerable communities in flood risk areas, by focusing on the extent planned interventions improve (or worsen) physical, economic and social conditions. This will be done by understanding the mechanisms for fund allocation and consultation, and by investigating how the use of co-creation approaches with vulnerable groups can inform the design and implementation of flood defence and prevention strategies. -
Phd ResearcherUniversity Of Portsmouth Apr 2010 - Nov 2015Portsmouth, United KingdomThis study assessed and mapped Coastal Flood Vulnerability and Risk at high definition for the island city of Portsmouth. This project provided a vulnerability analysis and mapping system for emergency planning and crisis management and coastal management, based on UK geoinformatic datasets, notably national census data, map layers of the Ordnance Survey and flood zones from the Environment Agency. The flood risk of coastal communities has increased, primarily due to climate change, urbanisation and extension of infrastructure. Climate change is expected to increase the frequency and magnitude of storms and flood events with coastal communities bearing the brunt of those impacts. Three wards within Portsmouth were used to test this analysis, at Output Area level. -
