PI: Professor Leigh Payne (University of Oxford)In this post, I conducted research on the emergence of the ‘right against rights’, or the mobilization by right-wing forces to roll back the expansion of rights to historically marginalized groups. To explore who is behind the disorder provoked by the right against rights, where and why, and with what impact, this project crossed disciplinary (social sciences-humanities) and geographic (global north-global south) knowledge frontiers. By combining history, law, sociology, gender, and area studies, it broadened knowledge of, and develops strategies to reduce the right-against-rights’ threat of disorder on fragile democracies in Latin America and beyond.

During my time at the Inter-American Dialogue, a DC-based think tank, I helped inform and shape policies to promote energy security and climate change mitigation in Latin America and the Caribbean. In addition to publishing numerous analyses on topics ranging from electric mobility to deforestation, I facilitated events to bring together hundreds of stakeholders from across the Americas to discuss energy-related issues.

Pasto, Colombia

Selected as a J. William Fulbright ETA recipient, I was an English Teaching Assistant (ETA) at the Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia in Pasto from July 2018-June 2019.

In this internship, I improved my educational design skills by online guiding conversation classes with English majors in Ecuador. I wrote lesson plans that were both challenging and stimulating, and engaged directly with these students via programs such as Skype and Google Hangouts.

Syracuse, New York Area

As a summer intern for Senator Gillibrand's (D-NY) Syracuse office, I was tasked with navigating difficult conversations with constituents on a daily basis. I also assisted with planning events for the Senator and wrote summary briefings, letters of support, and greeting letters.
