I was a part-time Graduate Assistant for the residence life dorm Sarah oversaw. I've worked on Sarah's team for the last two years in managing the student affairs of the upper-level students' dorms. Sarah was one of the best managers I have worked with to this date and was the highlight of my professional experience while in residence life. Here are three ways she was impactful as a leader: 1. Sarah is a massive champion of those whom she leads. As a leader, she communicates absolute belief in her employees and demonstrates her support through consistent encouragement, approachability, and resourcing. Sarah ensures that her team has the tools and resources needed to succeed in the tasks she gives them. 2. Sarah is a high-capacity leader. She can handle multiple tensions and stressors in her leadership. At the same time, operating with a non-anxious leadership presence, a value towards excellence, and a clear focus on the goal or priorities needed for the results asked of her. This high capacity enables her the freedom to supervisor others with the necessary time and attention while inspiring excellence in us through her example. 3. Sarah is an inspirational leader who draws out the best in others. Sarah has an attitude of positivity and gratitude towards her responsibilities and those under her leadership. She has a heart of compassion when difficulties arise and grace for when failure happens. Further, she is willing to empower and gives power to her leaders. This empowerment allows those on her team to feel ownership and trust through tangible responsibility delegated. Lastly, Sarah is inspirational through her courageous and humble leadership. Sarah owns her mistakes and is vulnerable (in healthy ways) when dealing with her personal situations that connect her to her team. Overall, Sarah was a great manager and leader to work underneath.
