Energy Service Corps is a joint program of the U.S. PIRG Education Fund and AmeriCorps that works to educate and engage communities around energy efficiency. I kick-started the California program in its first year by strategizing a campaign and program plan, by grant-seeking and fundraising, and by networking in communities all across the state. In only its first year, I was able to recruit and manage 7 full-time employees, 40 paid AmeriCorps interns, and hundreds of volunteers to provide education and services for energy efficiency in 7 different communities across California. By the end of that first year, we had educated thousands of Californians about ways to save money and energy through weatherizing homes, educational events and panels, college campus service days, and media outreach.
