Sarah is a fourth year student at the University of Florida. She is originally from West Palm Beach, FL. She currently resides in Gainesville, FL where she is studying Family, Youth, and Community Sciences and Disabilities in Society. She has a passion for helping children, students with special needs and providing each child the equal opportunity to have a positive childhood outcome.During her time at UF she has worked part-time at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center, an on campus arena that hosts a variety of events ranging from men’s basketball to concerts. Shortly after she began working there she was promoted to a supervisor in the Event Staff Division. In this role she gained responsibility and developed new skills. This position has helped her develop professional communication skills, time management, and superb customer service skills. From working at the O’Connell Center she has gained transferable skills that she can bring with her to her future field of work. Outside of her studies and time working she has volunteered with Kids. At Kids Count she was a student mentor and worked with at-risk students. Sarah helped to enhance the learning and improve the self-confidence of the students she worked with while building their social skills & helping them become more aware of those around them. During her time volunteering Sarah realized how passionate she was about working with youth and helping to improve childhood outcomes.In her first years at UF Sarah spent time volunteering with the UF Inclusive Fitness and Unified Sports Program, a program dedicated to helping students with special needs participate in athletic programs. During her time volunteering here Sarah developed a passion for working with special populations. During her past three years at UF Sarah has learned what she is passionate about through different volunteering experiences. She is excited for her final year at UF and to see where life takes her after graduation next spring.
