The MachineLed the team that architected, designed, and implemented the mechanical, thermal, and system aggregation solutions for The Machine. The Machine is a rack-scale research prototype, built to demonstrate a shared, byte-addressable memory centric architecture. - Played a key role in translating The Machine from conceptual vision into detailed definition, roadmap, and value proposition, partly by using 3D-printed prototypes to force productive dialogue between functional teams. - Delivered on time and under budget, utilizing a CM model for manufacturing and assembly.- Designed to leverage existing hard-tooled components, reducing tooling and part costs by over $500k.- Developed and delivered executive and HPE board-level presentations on roadmap, progress, issues, and risks.- Ran customer conversations on system architecture and data center efficiency topics.- Conceptualized and personally implemented software for automatically generating complex cable assembly instructions across diverse system configurations. - Embraced Kaizen, or Speed Design Review (SDR), methodology to guide mechanical design process; led multiple design workshops that reduced deployment risk.Broader Research & ContributionsManaged researchers pursuing additional projects including nanoscale modeling for memristor material selection, device and system thermal design, and hardware/software co-design for application-level performance optimization in deep learning applications. This novel role was established to enhance communication, collaboration, and productization efforts between Labs and the Servers business unit. Led a team of seven engineers and technicians who designed, tested and launched thermal solutions for HPE’s entire blade server product line. My responsibilities included project planning, process definition, progress tracking, career development, and communication of risks and issues to upper management. Represented the thermal team in collaborations with firmware, software, hardware, factory, sales, and reliability teams.- Expanded technician engagement by establishing a training series to share and document best practices.- Revamped new-hire onboarding by establishing a structured curriculum, making every team member responsible for at least one session, and monitoring progress to successful completion for all new employees.

Designed and implemented efficient thermal solutions for products, including full concept to post-launch ownership for three blade servers, six interconnect switches, and multiple adapter cards. Directed JDM thermal engineering development work, including leading on-site training and reviews at partner sites in Asia.- Collaborated with firmware team to introduce proportional-integral-derivative (PID) fan speed control into HPE server thermal management for the first time.- Conceptualized and personally developed a utility to detect mismatches between thermal control settings and their actual firmware implementation, reducing test time and enhancing quality.- Maintained system for automated thermal sensor and thermocouple data collection.
