I co-founded a website that received a $2000 grant from the MIT Sandbox Innovation Fund Program in January 2020, and an additional $3000 grant in June 2020. Nearly one fifth of all Americans have a physical, sensory or intellectual disability that makes it difficult for them to participate in their communities. Many local businesses feature stimuli that can trigger episodic responses, but these are often not adequately documented, meaning that people with special needs are not alerted beforehand. My co-founder and I plan to crowdsource reviews of restaurants and stores based on criteria relating to accessibility (light, noises, colors, staff accommodation, etc.) allowing special needs customers to better navigate their communities.

Support student learning via the school’s tutoring service. Acts as both an educational and emotional support. Additionally works as a personal study coach to multiple students through regular weekly meetings.

Working on research projects with Dr. Kristina Petersen (PhD) on a range of topics surrounding disabilities in medicine, such as assessing disability inclusion during COVID-19 in medical schools. Received the Medical Student Summer Research Fellowship for summer 2021.

Worked to ensure a positive clerkship environment and learning experience for 3rd year students on their pediatrics rotation. Addressed students’ concerns throughout the year and served as a contact point between the clerkship director and the rotating students.

Act as liaison between NY Blood Center and NYMC to coordinate events and oversee all aspects of the club. In the 2021-2022 school year we broke the record number of donation from our school, over 250.

I assisted Dr. Russell Tobe, Lead Psychiatrist, on three pharmacology studies testing two new treatments for autism spectrum disorder. My duties included coordinating study assessments, performing EEGs, ECGs, obtaining vital signs, phlebotomy and managing data.

Taught children with and without developmental disabilities to swim and have fun in the pool safely.

Planned and implemented a sequence of studies with Dr. John Blanchard (PhD) investigating authoritarian personality traits and how they are expressed across the left-right political spectrum.

I helped create a thriving hall culture and maintained the mental health, safety and wellbeing of an all-freshman hall in an off-campus dorm. I also served as the liaison between my residents and the college administration.

I watched over patrons in the pool, ready to act immediately in the event of an emergency. I am trained to provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of medical services.

Interned at Spectra Support Services, which provides therapy to individuals with special needs. Observed psychotherapy sessions employing Mindfulness-Based Play-Family Therapy (MBPFT), attended a class on temper tantrums by the creator of MBPFT, Dottie Higgins-Klein, and assisted in the development of clinical resources on Autism for Spectra’s clients. At the 2019 Swarthmore Psychology Department Spring Research Day, I presented a poster entitled “Literature Review: Inclusion of Parents in Play Interventions for Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder.”

I assisted Dr. Lori Wiener, Principal Investigator, on a multi-center research project studying which components of parenting a child with cancer are most stressful to marital relationships. At the 2016 NIH Summer Research Day, I presented a poster entitled “Bridging qualitative and quantitative methods: A study of perceived influence of childhood cancer on the parents’ marital/partner relationship.”

After working as a volunteer in summer 2013, the department chief, Dr. Grady, invited me back the following summer as a paid intern with increased responsibilities. I assisted on a research project assessing whether a computer program could be constructed to predict the desires of an incapacitated patient. Such a program could potentially offer relief to families suffering from mental stress created by difficult decisions.

I worked as a volunteer intern in the Bioethics Department. My duties included prepping literature reviews, editing manuscripts and creating a departmental presentation for an internal funding review.
