I am currently working for global company Metso as a Testwork Engineer in Western Australia, focussing on dewatering technologies including high-rate thickeners, high-compression thickeners, paste thickeners, clarifiers, pressure filters, filter presses, belt filters, ceramic leaf filters and tube presses. I conduct the majority of testwork in our Perth-based laboratory, however I also enjoy visiting customer sites around the Asia Pacific & Australian region to meet our customers to better understand, support and improve their dewatering processes. Metallurgical TechnicianAmdel Mineral Laboratory Aug 2009 - Jul 2010Working on a pilot plant project involving solvent extraction; electrowinning and leaching techniques. During construction and commissioning I assisted in setting up the pilot plant lab including set up of a Varian 700-series ICP-OES instrument; Shimadzu total organic carbon (TOC) instrument; writing of all procedures; consumables ordering; organising lab fixtures and training other met techs. Once the plant was commissioned and operational, on a day-to-day basis my role involved sampling; sample preparation for other labs; ICP preparation and analysis; solids analysis (% solids, % moisture etc); free acid determination; general ensuring smooth running of the lab; basic pilot plant operating. The shifts were 12 hours, days and nights, to total a 42 hour week.

Laboratory AnalystAlcoa Jun 2008 - May 2009I have experience working in Alcoa Kwinana's mining and refinery laboratories. In the mining lab, my role involved the analysis of drill hole/exploration samples by bombing for total organic and inorganic carbon (Perkin Elmer TIC/TOC), gas chromatography (GC - HP6890), and bomb aluminium/silica (BALSI) analysis on the ICP (Philips). As well as bombing, the samples were analysed for microwave method aluminium and silcia analysis (MALSI) and run on the ICP, as well as routine XRF (Philips) and magnetic susceptibility testing of samples. In the refinery laboratory I worked with the analysis of Bayer liquors, solids and refinery products through use of Hamilton and Gilson dilutors; GC; ICP; surface area analysis (Micromeritics Gemini); solids analysis (pressure and vacuum filtration); particle sizing (Coulter); XRF; and I collected the samples directly from the plant. The shifts were 10.3 hours in duration, either days or afternoons. -
