With about three years of science lab experience, I have acquired both diverse knowledge and skillset. I started out in a research lab at my university whose core focus was researching resistant strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae and possible alternate antibiotic methods. I specialized in PCR, transformation, and patch plating as well as making media that was both nutrient rich and nutrient deficient. I picked up valuable hands on wet lab and equipment skills as well as analytical skills. Subsequently, I started working for the USDA at Cornell AgriTech where I work as a summer LA specializing in the grapevine pathogen Plasmopara viticola. I have strengthened my knowledge of plant biology as well as acquiring both computational and wet lab skills. I learned how to design primers, serial passage, make inoculum, regrow frozen isolates, assemble Illumina shotgun sequencing reads, create DNA libraries, use MatLab to analyze images taken with a robot camera called a BlackBird, emasculate grapes, and cross breed them by drying out pollen.I take great pride in my past laboratory experience and am excited to continue pursuing laboratory positions that I can utilize both my computational and wet lab skills. Outside of the work environment, I like playing piano, juggling, kayaking, hiking, reading Stephen King novels and classics, and traveling.
