I managed the Agric section of Campden BRI, which is the UK’s largest independent food research organisation, and have two members of staff reporting directly to me. Within this role, I conduct research on produce, mainly fresh, for residual pesticides and any taint from the pesticide, along with variety trials to analyse the nutritional content, growth rate and yield of crops. A major component of my position is project management across several sections within the company. It is my responsibility to ensure the project work is carried out in a timely and accurate manner in order to fulfil the client’s requirements. Furthermore, I have recently submitted an application for an Innovate UK bid, which involved not only the organisation of several sections within Campden BRI but other external organisations to ensure that all aspects of the funding bid were submitted prior to the prescribed deadline. This role enabled me to develop a proven track record for building customer relationships, influencing skills, and I have significantly increased the quality of customer care provided by the section. All client records and communications have been maintained on the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software and ensured that all client data is stored in compliance with the current General Data Protection (GDPR) regulations.

I worked within the College of Medical and Dental Sciences in the School of Cancer Sciences as a Trial Coordinator for the aTTom-Extended trial. I was solely responsible for the set-up of the study at clinical sites, and for the organisation and day-to-day management of the trial. I ensured that the trial was conducted in accordance with the applicable ethical, regulatory and Trials Unit quality standards. Clinical trials are, by their very nature, highly regulated, and my knowledge and application of my skills to meet these requirements ensured that I was complicit with the University of Birmingham policy, procedures and their Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Furthermore, I managed hundreds of patient’s confidential and sensitive information, ensuring that all identifiable data remained concealed.

I worked as a research scientist and have a strong academic background in molecular biology both theoretically and in practical application. I have worked on a wide range of research areas including the role of ubiquitin and ubiquitin-like proteins in the plant stress response, the role of specific proteins in the promotion of flowering and the effects of increased CO2 levels on the ability to retain water in both Brassica Oleracea and wheat genotypes. A common thread throughout my research has been the how plants are influenced by external factors such as pathogens, light and temperature and what effect this plays on gene expression, plant signalling networks crop yield and plant viability.
