As a child, I was always called “tech-savvy” -- constantly tinkering with the eMachines computer in the room adjacent to mine. I explored the depths the device had to offer, learning about the different software, internet, and operating systems. In fifth grade, I started coding at school -- which piqued my interest in technology even further. Hello! My name is Sarah Anil, and I am a first-year information technology and systems student at the University of Texas at Dallas. After getting my bachelor’s degree, I hope to get my Master’s in Information Technology and Management or Cyber Security, Technology, and Policy to enhance my knowledge in my field of study. Information is paramount to our society today and tied to almost all human activity. Not only that, but the presented opportunities are incredibly diverse, with many avenues to grow from and pursue. It is a fast-changing industry coupled with rapid technological advances, making it a field where I will always be learning. I am committed to a major where I will constantly adapt and be on the cutting edge of innovation.The interdisciplinary nature of identity, diversity, and inclusion are three aspects that are important to my purpose and drive. Volunteering in different communities gave me a better understanding of the generation growing up just behind people with other socioeconomic challenges and me. I volunteer at my local library on the weekends, teach kids during vacation Bible school at various churches, and have served at a Salvation Army soup kitchen. I have also participated in multiple organizations, such as UNICEF and Project 9. Through these groups, I have been able to write to legislators, work on projects, and attend workshops about enacting change and assisting those in need.
