About Sarah Barber
Sarah is currently pursuing an MS in journalism with a specialization in sports media from Northwestern University's Medill School. Prior to Medill, she graduated from Northeastern University's College of Arts, Media, and Design in May 2024 with a BA in journalism and English, and dual minors in public relations and sports, media, and communication. Originally from the Chicago suburbs, Sarah grew up stealing her mother's laptop to write her own fantasy stories and transitioned to journalism as a junior in high school. The first article she ever wrote was a sports feature, and she hasn't looked back since. During undergrad, Sarah worked for both the Boston Globe and Northeastern University Athletics Video Production, both in roles focused on storytelling in sports., and after those experiences ended, she stayed in both positions in a part-time capacity while continuing her degree full-time. Options for sports-related journalistic or writing course options were lacking, but Sarah opted to fill in the gaps where she could, picking up the sports, media, and communication minor, and developing a deeper understanding of a new side of the sports world. After spending her senior year at Northeastern working with two mediums in sports, Sarah affirmed her passion for written coverage and reporting, and knew she wanted to continue improving her skills as a sports writer. Sarah was selected as a Boston Globe intern for the 2024 summer, where she worked once again with the sports department, but in a different capacity than her previous co-op or part-time work. As a Globe intern, Sarah had the opportunity to cover numerous in-person events across the sports world and across New England. Spending time learning from journalists with different experiences and expertise was truly invaluable, and Sarah ended her time with the Globe even more eager to fulfill her future dreams of becoming a professional sports reporter.
