My current mission is to ensure that NAV's employees have the accessibility knowledge they need to produce IT systems that not only meet Norway's stringent legal requirements, but also provide a positive experience for all our users. To accomplish this, I design, produce and teach the accessibility curriculum for our developers, designers, content authors, and others working with product development. I'm also responsible for our publicly available Good Practice documentation on the subject of accessibility. Previously I worked on our design system team to create the accessible components and patterns used by our internal and external systems.NAV, the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration, administers a third of Norway's national budget via services such as parental benefits, pensions, sick pay, disability and unemployment benefits. Our IT department consists of over 200 teams working together to build the digital systems used by our caseworkers and the public.

In January of 2020, Norsk Helsenett SF (The Norwegian Health Network, NHN) acquired the Directorate of eHealth's Division of Software Development and assumed the Directorate's role as the provider of national eHealth solutions. My role at NHN is a continuation of my work at the Directorate of eHealth.My goal as Principal Advisor and Competence Manager for Universal Design is to support Norwegian Health Network’s teams in becoming self-sufficient in creating web solutions that provide a pleasant user experience for as many people as possible. I provide support for teams working on a range of web solutions, from interactive sites aimed at the entirety of Norway’s population to web-based business systems used by Norway’s health professionals. My role involves producing documentation of processes and best practices, training developers, designers, testers, and content creators, and holding presentations to promote accessibility awareness and knowledge throughout my organization. I provide support in the form of expert testing and technical and design reviews and solutions, and I work with and across teams to prioritize remediation efforts. I also mentor colleagues and participants in back-to-work programs.I represent my organization and advance the cause of inclusive design by participating in and holding presentations for external fora, and I lead my organization’s participation in governmental research and reference groups on the subject of universal design. I also author policy documentation and provide guidance in the interpretation of national and international accessibility laws and regulations.

The Norwegian Directorate of eHealth is responsible for the steering and coordination of eHealth on a national level, in addition to the development and administration of digital solutions that aim to improve and simplify the health care sector. The Directorate of eHealth split out from the Directorate of Health in 2016. As the Directorate of eHealth grew in number of employees and projects, I saw the increasing need for a full-time role to take responsibility for inclusive design in the organization and pushed for the creation of such a role. My current role at Norwegian Health Network is a continuation of my work at the Directorate of eHealth.
