I worked at Devonshire Hall—a University of Leeds residence—alongside other students as a summer worker helping with regular maintenance and the transition from conference season to student intake. Through the varied tasks I performed, I learnt a lot about the day-to-day running of the site, from management to the kitchens and more.

I tutored the same child for a second summer, focusing on reinforcing the content that he had learned during online schooling throughout lockdown, completing and revising practice papers for maths and science topics and continuing the development of exam technique.

I tutored a Year 9 student with dyslexia, dyscalcula and dyspraxia for 12 hours a week in GCSE maths, sciences, and exam technique during the summer holidays. I used a range of methods to teach the content, incorporating word games to aid memorisation. I learned to adapt my methods depending on the content, his receptiveness, and time available.

As a Workaway volunteer, I carried out a variety of tasks from cleaning to checking in guests to the hostel.I gained experience in hospitality and developed my ability to interact with people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. During my time at the hostel, I became accustomed to switching between English and Spanish frequently.

I worked on the fish and meat counters of the store, leading me to develop a number of specialised skills, such as preparing fish for customers.During my time there, I underwent training on food hygiene, health & safety, and checkout operation, as well as learning about the produce we were selling so as to answer any questions that customers may have had.
