Develop and study efficient recombination layers for organic multijunction photovoltaics.

Observed the charge transport and recombination dynamics in thin film bulk heterojunction (BHJ) blends of strongly absorbing donor materials (polymer, small molecule) and electron accepting (fullerene, small molecule) materials. Used observations of the temperature dependent open circuit voltage to reveal Fermi level pinning at the interfacial band gap, consistent with a band gap surprisingly free of trap states.
