I am honored to continue my service to the Governor of Kentucky, the Secretary of the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet, and the citizens of the Commonwealth for the next four years. The skills and experience I gained as corporate in-house counsel and a partner at a top-tier law firm have enabled me to provide solid advice to our agencies including the Department of Tourism, Kentucky State Parks, Kentucky Performing Arts, Kentucky Historical Society, Kentucky Arts Council, Kentucky Humanities Council, Kentucky Center for African American Heritage, Governor's School for the Arts, Kentucky Heritage Council and the Artisan Center at Berea. The Office of Legal Affairs at the Cabinet negotiates government contracts and real estate transactions, handles litigation, drafts legislation and regulations, files for trademark protection, and advises on employment issues.CORE COMPETENCIES➢ Strategic and Collaborative Partner➢ Experienced Trial Attorney➢ Communications Management➢ Government Contracting➢ Mentor and Developer of Talent

General CounselBritax Child Safety Feb 2017 - Jul 2018Fort Mill, ScAs General Counsel for a North American manufacturer of child safety restraints and strollers, I was fortunate to be exposed to new and interesting legal issues that helped me develop as a corporate generalist. I managed the Company's legal affairs throughout the Americas and supervised the activities of the Assistant General Counsel and outside counsel on a variety of issues. I also provided regular updates to the North American and Global leadership teams on the status of legal matters and department spend against budget. On any given day, I would be confronted with conventional and challenging situations, which required quick analysis and business-minded advice. I reviewed, drafted, and negotiated insurance, manufacturing, purchasing, marketing, engineering, sales, technology license, non-disclosure, and employment agreements to maximize protection for the business. Utilizing my litigation expertise and extensive in-court experience, I oversaw all aspects of product liability, commercial, bankruptcy, trade secret, and patent infringement matters. Because the company is heavily regulated, I interacted with government agencies for reporting, FOIA requests, defect and compliance investigations, and on-site inspections. In addition, I navigated several recalls and developed and directed the strategy for the defense of a governmental administrative action. Given an increased focus on innovation, I managed an active intellectual property portfolio of trademarks and patents to protect and grow the business. I regularly collaborated with engineering, quality, customer service, sales, marketing, finance, IT, operations, and human resources and supported the business through training, communications management, contracts, and the development of policies, processes, and forms. -
Senior Litigation CounselHusqvarna Group Jan 2014 - Jan 2017Charlotte, NcAs Senior Litigation Counsel for the Husqvarna Group, I managed and supervised all aspects of commercial, product liability, intellectual property, construction, automotive, employment, and asbestos litigation from inception through trial and appeal. As a global producer of outdoor power products for lawn and garden care, I had the opportunity to work with counsel from around the world, including in the United States, Canada, Ireland, Sweden, Brazil and Australia. I regularly partnered with engineering, marketing, customer service, IT, and HR on issues such as product improvements, regulatory compliance, social media communications, warranty claims, customer relations, supply chain and commercial agreements, e-discovery, internal investigations, EEOC and workers' compensation claims. I developed and implemented processes for the efficient and cost-effective handling of claims and litigation (e.g., procedures for investigations and product inspections, litigation plans with milestones for the evaluation of risk triggers, checklists/forms for the preservation, collection, processing, review and production of data and documents, as well as templates for pleadings, discovery and trial). -
MemberStites & Harbison Jun 2002 - Dec 2013Louisville, KyIn private practice, I defended products liability, toxic tort, commercial, employment, environmental, asbestos, and insurance disputes and tried cases in state and federal courts. I served as national counsel for a medical device manufacturer and developed safety campaigns for industrial manufacturers to reduce liability exposure. Given the 1-year statute of limitations in KY and TN, I represented pharmaceutical, medical device, automotive, and other companies in the removal of serial, mass and class actions to federal court and would transfer the cases into MDL proceedings, when applicable. I conducted evidentiary hearings in high profile matters and in pro bono guardianship cases. - Listed in Kentucky Super Lawyers magazine for 2012 and 2013- Recognized by Super Lawyers as One of the Top 25 Women Lawyers in Kentucky for 2013- Martindale-Hubbell AV Peer Review rated (top rating)- ABA Outstanding Products Liability Subcommittee Chair Award for 2012-13 -
Of CounselCassiday Schade & Gloor 1998 - 2002Chicago, IlI began my legal career in Chicago, as an insurance coverage and defense attorney. In addition to representing insurers in insurance coverage matters, I have defended companies in personal injury, automotive, products liability, wrongful death, environmental, toxic tort, premises liability, construction, asbestos, and professional liability cases. I worked with property and casualty, professional liability, captive, and excess insurers to achieve favorable results in complex litigation. At CSG, I worked with the same group of partners, associates, and paralegals with whom I started my legal career. We tried several cases to verdict in state and federal courts and worked with national counsel to defeat class certification in a medical device case. I left Chicago to move closer to family after the birth of my twins.
