My sister and I are starting up a dark-sky resort near Lake Superior in NW Wisconsin. We have one cabin currently for rent on 68 acres of forested land. We are planning multiple phases of development to include campgrounds, unique tiny home rentals, a event/art retreat center, and an outdoor thermal bath.

iOS and Android development for a progressive nonprofit organization

After 4 years on the iOS team, I utilized Atlassian's secondment program to work on the Android team for 3 months. After the end of the secondment, I made the decision to permanently transfer to the Android team.Since then, I've been working primarily with the Android codebase in Kotlin, using technologies such as Mobius, Compose, Flow, Gradle, etc.

A group of volunteers from App Camp 4 Girls decided to form a non-profit after that non-profit dissolved. Our launch was curtailed by COVID, but will be ramping back up again soon.As President, I led the efforts to establish the non-profit legally, set up finances, established a bank account, requested and received funding, etc.

For the past year, I've focused exclusively on iOS development. I've developed mobile applications for a variety of clients, ranging from large corporations to small startups. I've completed the Android NAT (Nerdery Assessment Test) and plan to do Android development in the future in conjunction with iOS.

As a developer at the Nerdery, you have to be ready for whatever is thrown at you. I started off with a Spring web development project, which was the first time I'd ever used Spring MVC and Spring Security (besides using it in the code challenge I submitted to be hired by the Nerdery). My next project was delayed, so I asked if I could learn iOS development. Within two weeks I had completed the Stanford course on iTunes and was assigned to an iPad redesign. I was able to jump in and contribute immediately, focusing on the backend duties of connecting to the client's existing service API and the core data models since they were most similar to work I'd done in the past. After that, I began to learn some of the less-similar aspects of mobile programming, like views and view controllers.After finishing Lead Developer training, I began to lead projects. As a lead, I managed the project from the technical side, acting as the technical liaison with the client, planning and scoping the project, assigning tasks to other developers and ensuring those developers have everything they need to finish their tasks on time. I worked with QA to address any bugs in the code, and once finished, I delivered the final product to the client.In addition to getting more experience with iOS, I picked up a couple other technologies. After working on several WordPress side projects in my spare time, I took on WordPress projects at work as well. I signed up for Nerdery University (mentoring program) to learn Android development and passed the Nerdery Assessment Test (NAT) at the end of the program to qualify for developing on Android. I've lead small to large scale projects in many disciplines, with clients ranging from small startups to agencies to global corporations. Some of these clients have been very technical, while others have little understanding of the technical side of the project. I strive to communicate well with every client, regardless of their technical ability.

As Blog Editor, I was the point person for finding new bloggers and scheduling the blog posts each month. I also edited content and added keywords for SEO. As Technology Editor, I worked on a number of improvements to the three Apex sites (Apex Publications, Apex Blog and Apex Magazine) to improve our layouts/functionality and provide a consistent look and feel.

I was a member of the AFRS technology group responsible for the fraud detection engines and case management tools that process health care claims. We used an Agile development methodology featuring Rally software for tracking our schedule and scrum calls via Webex for connecting our onshore and offshore teams. I worked directly with business owners and users to provide detailed estimates on our tasks, and implement solutions within their scheduled release dates. Key technologies: Java 6, Hibernate 3, Spring 3, Mule ESB, SVN, Maven, Oracle, SQL Server, Eclipse, STS, Web services.

Our team was responsible for creating and maintaining the content management system for our Codes Content team. I was the main developer for the XML Extract process that applied rules to our Oracle data for publishing to various formats (print, online). I worked directly with users to gather requirements and design solutions to meet their needs. I mentored other developers on the extract process and developed other aspects of the application when I had time. We used a variety of technologies, including Java, XML, SAX parsers, Hibernate, SQL, Oracle, XPath, web services, JSF, JavaScript, JUnit, CVS, HTML, Websphere and WSAD.

I worked as an internal consultant within the family of Cargill businesses to implement, develop and support Progress databases and applications.

While in college, I interned at UPS for three months, focused on data modeling and project management. I designed and documented development projects and assisted in developing Visual Basic and MS Access applications.

While in college, I worked as a full-time DBA in a four-person team providing 24-hour support to 140+ users. I performed manual monthly loads into an Oracle data warehouse, and created Visual Basic and MS Access tools to automate performance tracking.
