As the Drinking Water Quality Manager for the City of Ann Arbor, I was a leader in our PFAS research and response and managed water quality from source to tap. This included source water monitoring and protection, outreach to upstream sources, management of the treatment plant's research portfolio, collaboration with various research partners, leadership of internal research projects, day-to-day and long-term treatment process optimization and troubleshooting, management of operations and laboratory staff, maintenance of compliance, and leadership of communication and outreach, which includes giving plant tours, handling customer complaints, guest lecturing at local universities, speaking with community groups, serving on expert panels, presenting at conferences, participating in pop-up events, and developing outreach materials.

As the Drinking Water Emerging Contaminants and Regulatory Issues discipline lead at Arcadis, my experience includes: - Conducting treatment process optimization assessments, focusing on improvements to coagulation and flocculation performance, polymer optimization, and disinfection by-product precursor and cyanotoxin removal. - Working with utilities to develop lead service line replacement strategies for short- and long-term implementation and to design relevant customer outreach materials. - Developing strategic and technological recommendations for online water quality monitoring for water quality, distribution system security, and source water security applications. - Conducting a multi-year, in-plant study on nitrosamine formation across a biofiltration pilot resulting in design changes to the in-progress filter upgrades to address the potential for future regulation of nitrosamines. - Collaborating on Water Research Foundation (WRF) projects addressing nitrosamine formation across biofiltration, manganese removal across biofiltration in the winter, and a biofiltration guidance manual. - Performing vulnerability assessments using the American Water Works Association (AWWA) J100 system, developing a new method for risk evaluation of source contamination and drought for a surface water utility. - Contributing to a chapter on 1,2,3-trichloropropane treatment for an upcoming Emerging Contaminants Handbook.
