Digital Preservation Specialist: Outreach And Training (Polonsky Fellow)

The project built on existing expertise in the field and promoted knowledge sharing. I began a digitising and catalogue project for the A.D. Edwardes Shipping Collection and succeeded in preparing over 25% of the collection for the online catalogue as well as preparing documentation to assist future volunteers and staff with completing the project. The A.D. Edwardes Shipping Collection is comprised of over 8,000 photographs of sailing and shipping vessels from around the world mounted in over 91 volumes.Responsibilities included:-digitising original photographs from the albums using Microtek scanning equipment;-completing colour corrections and cropping using Adobe Photoshop;-created item-level bibliographic records for the library's catalogue;-labelled each original photograph in the collection for processing and cataloguing;-completed research on vessels and unidentified ports; and-created a reports on the identification of several ports for future cataloguers and wrote a manual on metadata keywords to ensure record uniformity.
