As an Employment Adviser within the Specialist Employment Team, I undertake paid work including drafting Particulars of Claim, Lists of Documents, Schedules of Loss, Lists of Issues, witness statements and acting as a Relevant Independent Adviser in respect of settlement agreements. I also draft pro bono written advice to clients about what employment law claims they have grounds to pursue, the deadlines for making those claims and their merits. I extract relevant information from large amounts of client documentation.I advise clients about employment contracts; Employment Tribunal claims; unfair dismissal; discrimination; wrongful dismissal; constructive dismissal and pregnancy and maternity issues. I also advise clients about disciplinary procedures; performance and capability issues; redundancy; grievances; TUPE; pay and the Working Time Regulations.I have gained knowledge and experience of Employment Tribunal case management and employment law.

Career break to care for my children. In preparation for my return to practise, I have refreshed and updated my skills by devising and following a training plan. Courses attended include Introduction to Employment Law (ELA), Knowing the Rules-A Tactical Guide to ET Procedure (ELA), Settlement Agreements (ELA), Introduction to Dealing With Employment Enquiries (Richard Aldridge) and The Law Society Women Lawyers Division Returner Course.I receive regular employment law updates from IDS Employment Law Brief as well as from Daniel Barnett's Employment Law Bulletin. I am also a member of the Employment Lawyers Association.I have Participated in webinars, including Top Seven HR Problems for Employers (Daniel Barnett) and A New Approach to Continuing Competence (SRA) and have familiarised myself with the SRA's new Standards and Regulations.I have also observed Employment Tribunal hearings.

I was Head of the Mental Health Department from June 2010 until August 2011, a Solicitor and Supervisor within the organisation from August 2007 and practised as a solicitor there from May 2006.My caseload consisted of mental health and community care matters. I represented clients who were subject to the Mental Health Act 1983. I undertook advocacy at the Mental Health Tribunal and at Hospital Managers Reviews and I drafted Tribunal claims and undertook case management. I also represented clients at Care Programme Approach meetings and in matters involving the Official Solicitor and displacement of the functions of Nearest Relatives. Further, I drafted advance decisions.I was a member of the Mental Health Accreditation Scheme from August 2007 to January 2014. I was the Legal Aid Agency Contract Supervisor for Community Care and the sole fee-earner at the organisation to undertake such matters. I also undertook privately funded community care matters. I obtained needs assessments and carers' assessments, negotiated care plans and advised about paying care home fees.I concurrently supervised 5 fee-earners and managed 16 fee-earners. I introduced new policies to ensure that all fee-earners' billing and chargeable hours targets were exceeded. I conducted file reviews, implemented the disciplinary procedure when necessary and assisted in implementing the redundancy procedure. I managed the day to day running of the organisation while the Partner and Practice Manager were both on leave, sometimes for up to six weeks. I took an active role in business development including assisting in tendering for and obtaining Legal Aid Agency civil contracts. I also undertook marketing to promote the organisation and established and delivered their participation in a hospital's weekly legal advice clinic. As the organisation's Training Coordinator I prepared and delivered many in-house training courses and oversaw colleagues' professional development.
