Postdoctoral Fellow
Initial research projects focused on developing methods to ionize and detect low-vapor pressure organics of astrobiological significance using a miniaturized Paul trap developed at JPL; building and testing a new mini-Paul trap mass spectrometer system; and brining online, operating, and characterize a system that generates hypervelocity ice grains and molecules. Work for the OWLS JPLNext project included developing and constructing ion optics to interface electrospray ionization (ESI) and/or capillary electrophoresis (CE) sources to various mass spectrometers. Experience also includes the preparation, submission, and publication of scientific results; aiding in the preparation of DALI and PICASSO proposals; and being the mini-Paul trap POC for an Atelier study.
Postdoctoral Associate
Research focused on designing and building a custom instrument, which utilizes electrospray ionization (ESI), RF ion trapping (both ambient and cryogenic), time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometry, reflectron mass spectrometry, and laser spectroscopy. Reactive intermediates involved in atmospheric chemistry, heterogeneous catalysis, and gas-phase proteins were probed with IR action (CIVP) spectroscopy once the instrument is completed. Gordon Research Seminar Chair
I was one of the Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) chairs for the very first Gaseous Ions: Structures, Energetics, & Reactions conference that was held in Ventura, CA on February 11-12, 2017. A GRS is a 1-day meeting held in conjunction with an associated Gordon Research Conference. The meeting is designed for graduate students and post-docs to present and exchange new data and ideas in a highly-stimulation and non-intimidating environment. The meeting also provides networking and professional development opportunities. My responsibilities as chair included organizing and leading the meeting, fundraising, allocation and distribution of funds, and ensuring the success of the seminar.I am pleased to announce that the GRS was a resounding success! 55 graduate students and postdocs from around the world attended the meeting which featured 11 oral presentations by young scientists, two poster sessions, a keynote address, and a career panel. I would like to thank sponsors for supporting the seminar -fundraising was so successful that all of the registration fees were able to be covered. Research focused on elucidating the electronic and geometric structures of Group 5 and Group 6 transition metal oxides using the techniques of anion photoelectron spectroscopy and DFT calculations. Helped perform a resonant two-photon detachment experiment. Performed thorough reactivity studies on Group 5 and 6 transition metal oxides with methanol and ethanol.
