Katherine Low Settlement is a much-loved, busy charity that has been serving Battersea and the wider Wandsworth community since 1924. We are dedicated to building stronger communities and in doing so tackling poverty and isolation.We run a range of our own community projects to support children and their families, older people and refugee communities. We also invite other charities and community groups to operate out of our premises - so together we can meet the diverse needs of the local communities of Wandsworth. Leading a local settlement charity in SE London with the purpose of reducing loneliness and building stronger, less divided, communities. Turnover £506k and a staff team of 19 and over 100 volunteers. We reach 4k Rotherhithe and Bermondsey residents annually through innovative, user led and asset based targeted services and activities for disadvantaged children, families and isolated older adults. - Increased income by 45% in year ending March 2021; addressed the huge immediate funding gap that arose from the COVID-19 pandemic by leading a highly focused fundraising operation, prioritising existing donors and emergency funds to generate over £200k in new funding, replacing the deficit forecasted with a surplus. - Responded to the pandemic with highly effective crisis management and business continuity planning. Rapidly pivoted social contact group delivery to digital/phone activity, volunteer phone befriending and welfare support for older people, carers, vulnerable adults and families. 3,000 service users contacted and triaged within the first two weeks of the initial lockdown.- Delivered an award-winning emergency relief food distribution hub to meet unmasked food poverty locally in partnership with the local authority, The Felix Project/FareShare and 18 community organisations. Implemented within two weeks from scratch, provided 2,641 essential emergency food boxes to 540 local people in crisis over the year of operation. - Initiated the process to become a proudly, actively anti-racist organisation. Proactively leading an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion group of staff and trustees to learn and bring black and minoritised voices into the core of our programme design, and to grow our diversity internally.- Generated several strategic multi-year core grants with donors such as Mercers (£90k). Secured new BBC Comic Relief funding to pilot a very successful two-year befriending through sport and activity project.

Secured funding to enable delivery of programmes that supported local people into sustainable jobs. Led on income generation by engaging and developing strategic partnerships with employers and Southwark and Lewisham councils.Key account management of employers such as John Lewis Partnership, Selfridges, Tiffany & Co and Pret A Manger. Development of effective partnerships with Southwark’s community sector.

Delivered from end to end a very well received inaugural ‘Remember WW1’ national awards programme and celebration event. Advised on the creation and implemention of a highly successful new awards programme for the EDT Industrial Cadets initiative.

Business development, resulting in successful new contracts. Developed funding bids, reviewed pricing, strengthened impact measurement and evaluation, advised on communications, events, marketing and social media strategy.

- Led the engagement of corporate, public sector and outreach organisations to participate in the “Challenge”- Led strategic engagement of the key funder – Nationwide Building Society – and other partners, such as MPs, sponsors and wider stakeholders.- Promoted the initiative across the UK to employers, Trade Unions, Local Authorities, government agencies and community organisations.- Delivered a successful pilot in 2013, with over 50 organisations and 1,500 users.- Recruited organisations for the very successful 2014 launch, resulting in 26k user registrations.

- Led two high-profile national programmes reporting to a board of senior business leaders: ‘Apprenticeships’ chaired by Steve Holliday, National Grid’s CEO, and ‘Work Inspiration’, by Sir Stuart Rose.- Account-managed the corporate board members and proactively developed new business with leaders from companies including Barclays, Boots, Capgemini, Costain, ISS, McDonalds and Whitbread.- Influenced business behaviour by enabling business leaders to demonstrate thought leadership and share best practice.- Designed and delivered a range of high-profile events and peer learning networks to engage over 300 large employers, with partners such as central government departments (BIS and DWP), the TUC, City & Guilds, UKCES, WorldSkills and the Edge Foundation. - Developed two highly successful annual national awards to increase the engagement and profile of the programmes across the responsible business movement and to showcase best practice.- Negotiated sponsorship and pro bono services for events, awards and research with corporates such as BT, KPMG and Microsoft, along with other partner organisations and funding bodies.- Drove a range of policy groups with businesses and government, including regular employer forums with Skills and DWP Ministers. In collaboration with The Prince’s Trust, designed ministerial round tables with business leaders.

(Promoted from Skills for Life Project Manager);- Led the delivery of £1m government-funded contracts, which engaged hundreds of large national employers such as First Group, Royal Mail and Serco in the basic skills development of their people.- Led a dispersed regional operation with a team of twelve, including a network of regionally based account managers across England. Also managed corporate secondees.- Structured funding bids, wrote proposals and negotiated with funders, working to tight deadlines and in a rapidly changing policy landscape.- Recruited and managed a ‘Skills Champion’ network of advocates from corporates and partner organisations.- Managed relationships and collaborated closely with KPMG consultants, brokering their (BIS-funded) services to corporates and jointly presented to business leaders on the business case for up-skilling and the bottom line benefits.

- Developed consensus on policy amongst professional groups and key stakeholders to produce NHS guidance for the treatment of people with musculoskeletal conditions. - Researched and identified synergies in related policy areas and initiatives across the DH, other government departments and external agencies. - Established and organised steering committees and workshops, managing a broad range of conflicting interests. - Managed the writing and project team.

- Performed qualitative market research, strategy research, copy writing and editing for clients including East Midlands Development Agency, Guy’s & St.Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, UBM and William Reed Publishing.

Managed the transition of the marketing department from sales support functions to a central, market-facing and strategic team.Evaluated the effectiveness of UK and European trade publications' product plans, including direct marketing campaigns, incorporating all elements of the marketing mix.Developed the subscription circulations of BPA- and ABC-audited trade titles across the electronics, music and entertainment technology divisions.

Designed and implemented PR strategies in the UK, France and Germany for online financial information vendor businesses.
